Reports indicate that a small plane landing at the airport collided with a parked, unoccupied aircraft, sparking a fire that spread to a grassy area.

The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Monday, August 11th, 2025.

The landing plane, a Socata TBM 700 turboprop, had four people on board, including the pilot.

All four individuals on the landing plane were able to escape the aircraft, with two people receiving minor injuries and being treated at the airport.

The parked aircraft was unoccupied at the time of the collision.

The fire was extinguished by emergency crews, including Kalispell, Evergreen, Smith Valley, and Whitefish fire departments.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating the incident.

The single-engine plane carrying four people was attempting to land at about 2 p.m. at the Kalispell City Airport, according to Kalispell Police Chief Jordan Venezio and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Federal Aviation Administration said one plane on the ground was struck. That caused a fire that spread into a grassy area before it was extinguished, according to Venezio, who said several aircraft were involved.

Witnesses said a plane approaching from the south crash-landed at the end of the runway and careened into another aircraft, Kalispell Fire Chief Jay Hagen said.

Note: There have been 94 aviation accidents in 2025. This includes 14 fatal crashes. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is the source for this data, according to the NTSB (.gov).
