A man who kidnapped and tortured his estranged wife and her dog for three days, has been sentenced to 13 years in federal prison.
Joseph Meyer had kidnapped her at gunpoint in Muskogee and drove her to his home in Wagoner County where he beat her with a gun, a metal pipe and his hands and feet and strangled her over and over until she passed out.
She told investigators he repeatedly told her, “I’m going to kill you.” And, “Why don’t you just die.”
She said he was angry that she left him months earlier and had filed for divorce.
She said she saw him beating and strangling her dog and had no idea if the dog was alive or dead. (it lived)
She said the house didn’t have utilities and was freezing cold so on the third day, he drove them to a motel in Muskogee, where she escaped when he fell asleep.
She was admitted to ICU with a brain bleed, broken ribs, a collapsed lung and tons of bruises, cuts and puncture wounds.
Investigators say the victim’s dog had head trauma, a swollen neck and cuts and bruises.
Meyer pled guilty in 2021 to assault with a dangerous weapon with intent to do bodily harm and having a gun in a crime of violence.
We did a story on this same couple in February of 2018, after he was accused of threatening to kill her and kidnapping her child, which resulted in an amber alert.
