On October 1, 2021, at approximately 1:00 am, Moose Lake RCMP received a report of an assault on a male and a female at a residence on Portage Road in Mosakahiken Cree Nation (Moose Lake), Manitoba.
As officers were leaving to attend the call, individuals pulled up outside the detachment to report the same house where the assault occurred was on fire.
When the officers arrived on scene, the residence was fully engulfed. They then determined that nobody was believed to be in the residence.
The two victims who were assaulted, a 38-year-old male and 33-year-old female, were transported to the local nursing station for minor physical injuries. The local fire department extinguished the blaze. It is believed the fire was purposely set.
Investigation determined the victims were alone at the residence when two known males broke in and assaulted them with weapons. The victims were able to leave the residence and get to safety before the fire broke out.
Leroy Jensen, 21, was arrested and charged with Assault with a Weapon x2, Assault Causing Bodily Harm, Break and Enter at an Occupied Residence, Uttering Threats x2, Arson, and Failure to Comply with Release Order x5.
Police continue to look for Patrick Ballantyne, 26, in relation to this incident.
