A day after an infant was found buried inside a beer box in a suburban yard, a man and a woman are facing felony charges.
Authorities say two people were taken into custody on Friday after the remains of an infant were found on a property in Will County.
According to deputies, an investigation into the incident began on Thursday after detectives received a tip regarding a possible buried infant on a property in the 1900 Block of Roberts Road in Wilmington.
Upon further investigation, detectives learned that a 36-year-old woman had allegedly given birth to a child, and the remains of the infant were buried on the Roberts Road property.
Investigators also learned that the location of the infant’s remains was marked with a makeshift headstone.
After detectives conducted interviews and obtained corroborating information, they secured a search warrant for the property.
On Friday morning, around 9 a.m., detectives went to the property, secured the scene and brought in crime scene investigators. Two people, a 36-year-old woman and a 36-year-old man, were also taken into custody.
During a search of the property, investigators were able to locate the area where the reported infant’s remains were buried and found the remains about 36 inches underground.
Deputies then called the Will County Coroners’ Office, which took possession of the remains. An autopsy is scheduled to take place on Saturday.
