RawNews1st – At approximately 1550 hours, West Haven Police Officers, along with emergency medical personnel, were dispatched to the area of Burger King, 644 Campbell Ave, for the report of a person shot in the parking lot.
The investigation revealed that two males engaged in a verbal argument at a nearby bus stop which turned into a physical fight.
During the altercation, one male retrieved a 9mm pistol from a fanny pack and shot the victim, a 37 year old West Haven resident, in the pelvis.
The victim attempted to flee but fell to the ground and was assaulted again.
The suspect fled the area on foot while accompanied by a female and young child, both of whom witnessed the shooting.
The victim was treated by emergency medical personnel and transported to the hospital in extremely critical condition.
Further investigation by Detectives and Street Crime Unit personnel revealed the shooting suspect was identified as Traevis Mingo DOB 02/25/1991 who was accompanied by his girlfriend, Barbie Barbosa DOB 01/28/1994, and her 6 year old daughter.
Investigators learned that Mingo was attempting to sell personal property online to make money and purchase bus tickets to leave the state.
Detectives drafted a search warrant for Barbosa’s residence of 660 Winchester Ave Unit 203, New Haven which was executed early this morning by the West Haven Police Department Special Response Team.
Mingo and Barbosa were located inside the apartment and taken into custody. Barbosa’s daughter was not present and was safe with another family member.
Numerous items of evidentiary value were seized from Barbosa’s residence.
Mingo was charged with: 1st degree Assault, Criminal Possession of a Pistol, Illegal Discharge of a Firearm, Risk of Injury to a Minor, 1st degree Reckless Endangerment, and 6 counts of Violation of a Protective Order, Interfering with Police, and Disorderly Conduct; $1,000,000 bond.
Barbosa was charged with: Risk of Injury to a Minor: $25,000 bond.
At this point in the investigation, altercation and shooting appear to be a random act of violence and the victim and suspect have no apparent connection.
