A former Miami Dolphins first-round pick is suddenly out of a job: Christian Wilkins
The Las Vegas Raiders cut defensive tackle Christian Wilkins, the team announced via statement late Thursday evening.
A longstanding disagreement about how to handle the 29-year-old’s fractured foot led to the move, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
This comes just one year after Wilkins spurned the Dolphins in favor of a a four-year, $110 million deal with the Raiders.
Five games into the 2025 season, however, the defensive tackle suffered a Jones fracture in his foot.
That’s when the issue began as the two sides clashed about whether or not Wilkins required surgery, according to Rapoport.
“We have decided that it is in the best interests of the organization to move on from Christian Wilkins and he has been informed of his release from the team,” the Raiders said in a statement. “This franchise has a Commitment to Excellence on and off the field.
With no clear path or plan for future return to play from Christian, this transaction is necessary for the entire organization to move forward and prepare for the new season.”
What comes next might get messy. The Raiders have attempted to void the remaining $35.25 million in guaranteed money of Wilkins’ contract, per Rapoport, who later reported that the NFLPA already filed a grievance on the defensive tackle’s behalf.
