A flash flood warning remains posted for Oahu as severe weather continues to impact the islands. We’ve got team coverage across the state.
Relentless rain in Hawaii has left parts of the state under the threat of “significant and life-threatening flooding,” the National Weather Service in Honolulu said Monday night, with some areas already tallying more than a foot of rain over a 48-hour span.
A seasonal cyclone inundated Hawaii with heavy rainfall on Monday that was expected to continue through Tuesday afternoon, bringing the potential for “catastrophic flooding,” landslides and widespread loss of power throughout the islands, the National Weather Service said.
More Notes: The National Weather Service (NWS) warned that Hawaii could potentially face “catastrophic flooding” this week as heavy rains move across the state.
The NWS said a kona low — a drastic winter storm on the islands — will linger west-northwest of Kauai Monday morning, making its way westward through Wednesday and bringing heavy rain.
“Expect widespread heavy rainfall with this system, especially under the large heavy rain band, capable of producing catastrophic flooding, and strong gusty southerly winds through Wednesday.”
