Last week, a fatal accident occurred at a racetrack in Indiana, killing a man from Illinois.
Deputies from Newton County were called to the US 41 Motorplex at around 5:29 p.m. on Friday following reports of a fatal collision involving one vehicle.
Preliminary reports indicate that a 1996 Mustang being operated by a 45-year-old Illinois resident from Mackinaw was completing a solo timed run on the track.
After crossing the finish line, the car lost control for an unknown reason. Then, after colliding with the guardrail and going airborne, it came to rest in a nearby wooded area, where it caught fire.
The only occupant of the car, the driver, perished in the collision.
The autopsy has not yet revealed who the driver was.
