A CVS employee was stabbed to death in New York while working on Christmas Day.

On December 25, 2025 shortly before 7 p.m., Suffolk County officers were called to the CVS store at 20 East Montauk Highway in Long Island, New York. Upon arrival, officers found a man, who was an employee of the store, with a stab wound to his chest. He was pronounced dead after being transported to Good Samaritan University Hospital.

The victim was identified as 23-year-old Edeedson Cine Jr.

While the suspect fled the scene at the time of the incident, 43-year-old John Pilaccio, was arrested and charged with second-degree murder relating to the death of Cine hours later.

Police also confirmed that they had received surveillance video from inside the store. However, Suffolk County Police Commissioner Kevin Catalina explained that it was not clear what led up to the stabbing or what the possible motive might have been.

Police officials said witnesses and surveillance video from outside the store have led them to Pilaccio and that, based on who he is, they believe he was in the CVS for nefarious reasons.

After Cine’s tragic death, his father, Edeedson Cine Sr., said that his son wasn’t originally scheduled to work on Christmas. Rather, he had stepped in at the last minute to cover for one of his co-workers.
