10-Year-Old Boy Shot And Killed By Another 10-Year-Old Boy With Father’s Stolen Gun
A 10-year-old California boy took a stolen gun from his father’s car and then shot and killed another 10-year-old boy with it in the Foothill Farms area of Sacramento County, according to reports.
The sheriff’s office said the shooting happened Saturday around 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot of an apartment complex in the 4700 block of Greenholme Drive.
Deputies responded to the scene and gave the boy CPR. He later died at the hospital.
Family members identified the victim as Keith Frierson, saying loved ones called him “KJ.”
The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office said Sunday that its investigation determined the suspected 10-year-old shooter had gone to his father’s vehicle to get him cigarettes. The boy then took a gun from the car and bragged that his father had a gun, according to the sheriff’s office.
The sheriff’s office said the boy shot the other 10-year-old and then ran into a nearby apartment. It’s unclear what specifically prompted the shooting.
The sheriff’s office said the accused shooter’s father, 53-year-old Arkete Davis, was legally prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
Investigators found a firearm in a nearby trashcan and determined that it was reported stolen in 2017. The sheriff’s office said it believes Davis had tried to get rid of it after his son shot the other 10-year-old.
The 10-year-old suspected shooter was arrested and taken to the Sacramento County Youth Detention Facility. He faces a murder charge.
Davis was taken to the Sacramento County Main Jail and was booked for several firearm-related charges, as well as child endangerment and for being an accessory after the fact, the sheriff’s office said.
He is being held on $500,000 bail and will appear in court on Jan. 3.
