A 9-year-old kid was shot and killed in the south rural areas Thursday night, Matteson authorities said during a Friday public interview.
The occurrence occurred around 6 p.m. in the 800-block of Grounds Road, police said.
According to Matteson officials, the fatal shooting resulted from an altercation that began in a nearby suburb between two groups of young people.
The area was searched by Matteson police and fire departments, who discovered the 9-year-old with a single gunshot wound to the abdomen outside his home.
The boy, who was identified as O’Mauri Jones-Brown, passed away in a local emergency room despite efforts to save his life.
