A 14-year-old girl narrowly escaped an attempted kidnapping while she was walking home from school.
Police said the teen noticed a vehicle a light-colored vehicle pull up next to her and sensed danger. That passenger was identified as Timothy Tan Guan, 28.
The teen called her mother as she was being chased. The mother said during a news conference that she instructed her daughter to hang up and call police right away.
A man who was walking his dog nearby was able to help the teen.
The footage helped authorities track down the suspect.
Guan who was a stranger to the teen was arrested the day after the incident.
He was charged on suspicion of attempted kidnapping, aggravated assault and unlawful imprisonment.
According to police, Guan has an extensive criminal history, which most recently included three incidents of aggravated assault on a minor.
“Thanks to our dedicated patrol officer and detectives, this dangerous man was arrested and taken off the streets,” said Moroni Mendez, Glendale police officer.
