Hackers STOLE crypto holdings of 6,000 Coinbase users by exploiting MFA bug
Around 6,000 users on the world’s second-largest crypto exchange, Coinbase, had their crypto wallet contents stolen by hackers who’d taken advantage of a flaw in the platform’s multi-factor authentication (MFA) SMS security system.
Coinbase has insisted it will credit the accounts of all affected customers with the full amount, but didn’t confirm whether by crypto or flat currency – which would incur taxes if they’d made profits.
This follows another MFA bug scare for Coinbase customers – in August the platform accidentally sent out messages claiming the two-factor authentication had changed.
