The body of a woman believed by police to an 18-year-old woman missing since July was found in a wooded area of Cape May County on Monday, authorities said.
The remains were discovered as a State Police K-9 unit and local police followed up on a missing persons case along the 200 block of East Lena Street in the Whitesboro section of Middle Township.
While officials haven’t identified the person with 100% certainty, evidence leads them to believe they found Leila Bellamy, who was last seen on July 14. Bellamy, of Whitesboro, was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and pink/green Nike Air Force One sneakers when she vanished nearly two months ago, police said.
Middle Township police have been investigating Bellamy’s disappearance with help from the Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office, State Police, Philadelphia police, the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Florence County (South Carolina) Sheriff’s Department and Hillsborough County (Florida) Sheriff’s Department.
