The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) is investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday morning in Grainfield, Kansas.
According to the KBI, a Gove County Sheriff’s deputy was sent to the 500 block of W. 3rd Street in Grainfield around 7:45 a.m. to check on a disturbance.
The KBI says the deputy entered the home and found Kaiser arguing with a 63-year-old man he knew.
Investigators say the deputy told Kaiser to get down, and he initially complied but then got back up and tried to leave.
The deputy deployed a Taser, but the KBI says Kaiser just got angrier and charged at the deputy, hitting him in the head, face and body.
The deputy pulled his gun and fired one round, striking Kaiser.
The KBI says the deputy tried to save Kaiser’s life until EMS arrived, and then EMS took Kaiser to Gove County Medical Center, where he died.
The deputy and the 63-year-old man were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries. The deputy was released Friday afternoon.
