New Orleans anti-looting curfew imposed but cops won’t say how many arrests already made.
New Orleans mayor LaToya Cantrell has set a city-wide curfew to be enforced by police and National Guard with immediate effect in a bid to halt post-Ida looting.
Police Chief Shaun Ferguson said it was an “embarrassment” that numerous looters had already been arrested, but stopped short of releasing figures because he didn’t want to generate a “false narrative” that the city wasn’t under control.
Only emergency and relief workers are exempt from the 8pm-6am curfew as the city remains without power, although “some level of electricity or light” might come back on Wednesday.
