On Sunday, August 29th Madison County Sheriff’s deputies received a “shooting in progress” call from a married couple that was driving on Highway 72 East in the Gurley community who needed help.
The victim reported that an unknown black male subject driving an older model SUV with no license plate pulled up next to them and shot into their vehicle as they were traveling down the highway.
The couple immediately ran from the unknown offender at which time the couple observed a Deputy Sheriff along the roadway and stopped to ask for assistance.
The couple provided sheriff’s deputies with a description of the offender and his vehicle.
Sheriff’s deputies observed damage to the vehicle that appeared to be caused by a projectile. Shortly thereafter, sheriff’s deputies located the subject and his vehicle parked at the Mapco Gas Station located in the Gurley area.
The subject, armed with a handgun, exited his vehicle and was quickly detained by responding deputies.
Brandon Michael Rhodes was arrested and charged with Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle, Making a Terrorist Threat, Possession of a Controlled Substance(MDMA), Obstructing Government Operations, and Resisting Arrest.
