High Point 911 dispatcher accused of setting own home on fire; her husband, a High Point police officer, had no knowledge
On Wednesday, around 6:30 a.m., first responders in Thomasville were sent to a home on Grace Drive for a fire.
A neighbor saw smoke coming from the home.
During the investigation, evidence surfaced indicating the fire was deliberately set. The family’s dog and cat died and the home was destroyed. Two neighboring homes sustained fire damage.
Theresa Varner, 39, of the residence, was charged with 2 counts of first-degree arson, second-degree arson, felonious burning of personal property, and 2 counts of felonious cruelty to animals.
Varner is currently being held in the Davidson County Jail without bond pending a court hearing.
There is currently no evidence implicating Varner’s spouse in having any knowledge of the events surrounding the fire, either before or after its occurrence.
The father and son affected by this incident are presently residing with family.
High Point police confirmed Wednesday that Varner’s spouse is a patrol officer for the department and Varner is a 911 Master Telecommunicator
