RawNews1st – A Nevada judge sentenced a 15-year-old girl who pleaded guilty as an adult to a challenge to fight charge that resulted in death.
Shaila Hernandez-Rivas was sentenced to 50 years with parole eligibility after 20 years. She was convicted of killing 14-year-old Chloe Edwards.
On February 19, 2023, Chloe Edwards challenged Hernandez-Rivas to a fight over Instagram. Edwards and her older sister Alexis went over to Hernandez-Rivas’ Reno home on the 700 block of Soft Winds Dr. where the two North Valleys High School students agreed to fight.
Hernandez-Rivas pulled the knife within a matter of seconds after the fight started and swung it around erratically hitting Edwards in the neck and chest.
Chloe’s friends and family rushed her back to her home off Red Baron Blvd. around the corner where she later died in the front yard while emergency responders tried to save her.
In December 2023, Hernandez-Rivas pleaded guilty to challenging to fight resulting in death.
Because the fight was caught on camera, her public defender said evidence against her was overwhelming prompting the guilty plea.
