Following his meeting with President Volodymyr Zelensky of Ukraine on Tuesday, Speaker of the Republican House of Representatives Mike Johnson reaffirmed his dedication to border security.
Johnson has stated that until the federal government creates a border security plan, he will not negotiate aid for Ukraine.
Zelensky is in Washington, DC, trying to get American lawmakers to approve additional funding for Ukraine’s never-ending conflict with Russia.
Biden is pushing a reluctant Congress to approve the military, economic and humanitarian aid package, but the injection of border security into the negotiations has made progress difficult.
The Senate was headed to a test vote Wednesday, but Republicans have promised to block it.
