Video of a violent stabbing on a TTC train on Thursday shows that there was a verbal altercation that turned physical in the moments leading up to the incident.
During one moment of the fight, the suspect in dark clothing stabs the man in shorts, causing a large bloodstain to leak through the back of his t-shirt.
The bleeding man attempts to escape his attacker and begins to yell: ‘Help! Help!’ as the man with the knife chases him through the train car.
Petrified onlookers begin to make their way to other parts of the train, though some scream in panic about the stabbing.
‘He’s stabbing him up! He’s killing him!’ shouted one passenger.
‘Oh my God, I can’t get off the train,’ screamed another.
When the train finally pulled into a station, the suspect sped off, but not before chasing the victim down the subway car.
According to a press release from the Toronto Police Service, the suspect remained at large Thursday night.
The victim, a man in his thirties, was taken to a trauma center with life-threatening wounds. He has since been determined to be in stable condition.
Michelle Olszevski, a spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, said during a press briefing that the stabbing was an ‘isolated incident’ stemming from an argument between the two men.
‘This was an isolated incident and it appears there was a verbal disagreement between the suspect and the victim prior to the stabbing occurring,’ said Olszevski.
‘Whether or not they are known to each other I didn’t know.’
The Canadian police described the suspect as being aged 25-30, roughly 5 feet 10 inches tall, with a thin build and shaved head.
When he was last seen, he was wearing a gray GAP hoodie, black pants, black shoes, and was carrying a green backpack.
