Eight or nine children and at least one adult were injured to the point of needing hospital care after a section of boardwalk gave way at Stahlman Park.
The incident happened about 12:30 p.m. Thursday at the beachside park. Photos show the ramp leading to the gazebo to the beach with a large piece of wood broken.
Multiple Life Flight helicopters were dispatched — three were seen landing near the park — and EMS crews from Surfside, Freeport, Oyster Creek, Clute and Lake Jackson all were called to help treat the more severely injured as well as the “walking wounded,” according to scanner traffic.
The injured were part of a large group at the beach, all wearing matching pale yellow T-shirts with “Bayou City” in the logo. It is believed they are part of a youth group from Northwest Harris County, which we are attempting to confirm.
The exact number of people in the group, how many were injured and the severity of the injuries could not be immediately determined.
