An off the clock Chicago cop was shot and killed in the city’s South Side Avalon Park area early Saturday morning, as per CPD.
At 8157 S. Blackstone Ave., the officer was shot. Chicago police officials say she was on her way home from work just before 1:45 a.m.
In a news conference held later on Saturday morning outside the hospital, interim Chicago police Superintendent Eric Carter stated that the female officer who was injured was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she later passed away.
It was not promptly clear what hinted at the shooting, and the official’s personality was not yet delivered.
In the wake of the shooting, Mayor Lori Lightfoot and Carter both requested prayers and support for the Chicago Police Department.
Area Two Detectives are conducting an investigation and there is no one in custody.
