Netflix’s reality show about college cheerleading is entrenched in more controversy as a new lawsuit accuses one of the coaches in the series of trying to cover up sexual assault.
The lawsuit, filed in the Northern District Court of Texas on Wednesday, April 26, accuses Navarro College’s cheerleading head coach Monica Aldama told a cheer student to “keep quiet” about sexual assault claims, court records say.
Navarro College and its cheer team was featured in the Netflix reality series Cheer along with Aldama. The coach also appeared on the 29th season of Dancing With The Stars.
The plaintiff, who will not be named due to being a victim of sexual assault, was a senior at Navarro College when her roommate invited several male cheerleaders to their dorm in September 2021.
The student says one of the men climbed in her bed and sexually assaulted her.
She tried calling for help but she eventually pushed him off and made him leave the dorm, court records say.
