Two carjackings occurred in the Logan Square neighborhood just minutes apart on Wednesday morning.
According to police, the first carjacking occurred shortly before 6 a.m. as a 38-year-old man was walking to his parked vehicle in the 2100 block of North Whipple Street when two vehicles approached and six to eight people got out.
According to police, the group demanded his property, and he complied.
Some of the suspects boarded his vehicle and drove southbound. The others followed them back to the SUV and sedan.
The victim was unharmed.
Police said that 15 minutes later, a 53-year-old man was inside his vehicle in the 2700 block of North Mozart Avenue when two vehicles pulled up and at least six males got out.
According to police, they opened his car door, struck him in the face, and demanded he exit the vehicle.
The victim agreed, and one of the suspects got into his car and drove northbound, with the other cars following. At the scene, the victim refused treatment.
A 33-year-old man was inside his vehicle in the 1400 block of North Washtenaw Avenue at 6:45 a.m. when two vehicles, a red SUV and a gray SUV, approached, according to police.
According to police, four males exited the vehicles, opened the victim’s car door, struck him in the face, and stole his personal belongings.
The victim suffered a cut on his face and was treated on the spot.
As Area Five detectives conduct their investigation, no one is in custody.
Police have not stated whether they believe the incidents are linked.
