An unidentified chemical leak at an Indiana high school caused injuries to multiple students and faculty.
Emergency crews evacuated the school, and the source of the leak remains unknown.
Mayor Dennis Buckley acknowledged the impact on several individuals but provided limited details.
11 adults and nine students are receiving on-site treatment. One officer experienced burning sensations in the nose and throat near the school.
“Beech Grove High School was evacuated this afternoon due to concerns of a smoke related issue that was located inside Beech Grove High School,” the school group said on Facebook.
School officials added “emergency vehicles” were on the scene. Local station WTHR said that included HAZMAT crews and ambulances.
“All after school activities scheduled at the high school are canceled for tonight,” school officials said Tuesday. “Thanks for your understanding!”
