Douglas County District Attorney Suzanne Valdez said the state will seek to prosecute the juvenile as an adult.
The charges come after the shooting death of a 14-year-old over the weekend.
Lawrence police and Douglas County Sheriff’s deputies arrived in the 1100 Block of East 13th Street just after 5 p.m. on March 18, 2023, to find a male teen who had been shot.
He was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
After interviewing several witnesses, police believe they have evidence that suggests the two teens knew each other.
The suspect turned himself into police on Sunday.
