Anyone born after 2006 can NEVER buy tobacco products under new California bill.
The bill, Assembly Bill 935, would allow current tobacco users to continue consuming the products, but anyone younger than 16 years old today would never be able to buy the products.
The measure lays out a series of financial penalties and license suspensions for retailers who break the proposed law.
“The solution is a sustainable one, we should not punish our young people for the harms of an industry built on the exploitation of people,” said Oussama Mokeddem, the director of State Policy for Public Health Advocates.
“This has no redeeming value whatsoever other than a waste of time for the Legislature,” Charles Janigian, president of the California Association of Retail Tobacconists told KCRA 3.
