On Wednesday afternoon, an off-duty Chicago cop was involved in a shooting in Brainerd.
An off-duty Chicago police officer intervened in an apparent robbery in front of an apartment building in the 1300 block of West 90th Street at about 12:53 p.m., according to police.
The officer produced their firearm, declared their affiliation with the department, and attempted to intervene.
According to police, a struggle ensued over the officer’s weapon, and one subject was hit by gunfire.
The subject was taken to Christ Hospital in Oak Lawn in critical condition.
The officer was taken to a local hospital for observation.
The incident is being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability.
The officer in question will be assigned routine administrative duties for 30 days.
