RawNews1st – Drug Task Force in cooperation with Homeland Security Investigation’s Border Enforcement Security Team (BEST) culminated an investigation into narcotics smuggling in St. Clair County through the Blue Water Bridge.
At approximately 2:30 a.m., a semi-truck was encountered after crossing the US border at the Blue Water Bridge.
The truck was observed at closed business in Columbus Township where suspected narcotics were being loaded from the truck into a van.
Two suspects were arrested including a 23 y/o Canadian truck driver and a 27 y/o Detroit resident.
As a result, 348 pounds of marijuana and 24 pounds of Ecstasy were seized. These drugs have a street value in excess of $1,000,000.
During the investigation, a second van arrived in the area. The driver of the van was arrested in reference to the case.
To further the investigation, BEST served a search warrant for a home in Detroit and seized evidence to include the following: a firearm, ammunition and $36,000 in US currency.
Other assisting agencies in this investigation include United States Customs and Border Protection, United States Border Patrol K-9 and Michigan State Police K-9.
