Half a BILLION Pushed into Extreme Poverty by Covid Pandemic – UN Report
The COVID-19 pandemic is likely to halt two decades of global progress towards Universal Health Coverage, according to reports released Sunday from the WHO and World Bank – which revealed more than 500mn people were pushed into extreme poverty because they must pay for health services out of their own pockets.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called the “unequal distribution of COVID-19 vaccines in the past year has been a global moral failure…The pandemic will not end for any country until it ends for every country.”
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus urged all governments to step up efforts to ensure all citizens can access affordable healthcare.
