Cash for Covid clues? Chinese city offers $15k reward for tips on Delta outbreak
Officials in the Chinese city of Heihe on the border with Russia have offered huge cash incentives for residents to feed any information related to illegal hunting, animal smuggling or fishing that might explain the upsurge in Delta variant cases.
The city has recorded 240 cases in the latest outbreak, and will also impose severe penalties on those who intentionally conceal relevant information.
Meanwhile, authorities in Chengdu have adopted extreme methods to force isolation by classing phone signals that were within 800m² of a case as a close contact, as Beijing aims to vaccinate all 3-11 year old children by the end of the year.
