Hackers Use Amazon-owned Twitch to LAUNDER Staggering $10mn Haul
Hackers in Turkey have reportedly used streaming site Twitch to money launder a whopping $10mn in stolen credit cards. (MiddleEastEye)
The scam was exposed last month after a group of anonymous hackers leaked the source code of Twitch to expose user pay-out information.
However, users quickly realised something odd, with streamers with little to almost no followers earning thousands of dollars through Bit – a platform where viewers can donate money to their favorite streamer to support them financially.
The hackers allegedly negotiated with streamers to send large donations in Bits, who would then refund 80% of the money to different bank accounts. Twitch have since stated they have taken action against more than 150 of partners for “abuse of our monetisation tools.”
