96-yo NAZI WAR CRIME suspect caught after fleeing trial
The former secretary of the SS commander of Stutthof concentration camp “suspected of having aided and abetted 11,387 cases of murder” tried to run away before her trial, Reuters report.
Irmgard Furchner apparently fled her home in a taxi and tried to escape by metro, but will now be assessed to see if she is fit to serve a prison sentence.
The trial will hinge on the extent to which her “knowledge of the characteristics of murder, cruelty, or malice existed” – she was still a minor at the time – and if not found, she would avoid a sentence of manslaughter due to the surpassed statute of limitations.
