
At least nine people have been killed and several wounded in an Israeli drone attack on Beit Lahiya, in northern Gaza.
US President Trump has ordered strikes on Yemen’s Houthi-held capital Sanaa, threatening “hell” if the group does not cease attacks in the Red Sea.
The US has proposed a “bridge” plan to extend the ceasefire in Gaza into April and allow time to negotiate a permanent end to Israel’s war.
Gaza’s Health Ministry says at least 48,543 Palestinians have been killed and 111,981 wounded in Israel’s war on Gaza. Gaza’s Government Media Office has updated its death toll to more than 61,700, saying thousands of Palestinians missing under the rubble are presumed dead. At least 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive.
In a statement on his platform Truth Social, the US president says the military has launched a “decisive and powerful military action” against the Houthis in Yemen.
“They have waged an unrelenting campaign of piracy, violence, and terrorism against American, and other ships, aircraft, and drones,” Trump said.
He said Houthi rebels have been targeting US ships, aircraft, troops and allies.
“The Houthi attack on American vessels will not be tolerated,” the president also said.
“We will use overwhelming lethal force until we have achieved our objective,” Trump added.
His post comes moments after Houthi-linked media outlets in Yemen announced strikes carried out by the US, without giving details.

The ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas came into effect on January 19, 2025.
