(Fayetteville, NC) – On December 12th, 2022, at approximately 11:07 AM, officers were dispatched to the 3000 block of Bordeaux Park Drive for a shooting that had just occurred.
As officers arrived on scene they were advised the victim was transported to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center.
Detectives with the Fayetteville Police Department’s Aggravated Assault Unit responded and assumed the investigation.
The investigation revealed, the victim, Kevin HOPKINS (B/M, 25 years of age) was working as a housekeeper at a local hotel.

When HOPKINS knocked on the suspect, Joseph M. GRIFFIN’S (W/M, 32 years of age) hotel room door, GRIFFIN opened fire striking HOPKINS in the chest and arm.
HOPKINS was transported to the hospital for his injuries and has since been released. HOPKINS and GRIFFIN did not know each other.
The suspect, Joseph M. GRIFFIN (W/M, 32 years of age) fled from the scene on foot after the shooting incident.
Officers located GRIFFIN in the area and he was taken into custody without incident.
Joseph M. GRIFFIN was charged with Attempted 1st Degree Murder, Assault With a Deadly Weapon Inflicting Serious Injury, Discharge Weapon into Occupied Property and Possession of Firearm by Felon.
Joseph M. GRIFFIN is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail under an $800,000 secured bond. Crimestoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
He is currently being held at the Cumberland County Jail with no bond.
