RawNews1st – At approximately 11:45 p.m., Selma police officers were dispatched to the 15400 block of IH 35 N, between Loop 1604 and FM 3009, for a report of a single-vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers found the driver and sole occupant, Joseph Banales, to be deceased with a single gunshot wound to his head. It appeared the shot was fired through the driver’s side window.

Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the person who shot and killed 22-year-old Joseph Banales along I-35 near Selma two Saturdays ago.

Banales was a senior nursing student at the University of the Incarnate Word and a member of the ROTC program.

During the investigation, Selma PD was able to develop a vehicle of interest.

The suspected suspect vehicle (a possible Nissan 350Z/370Z) is a dark-in-color, possibly blue, sports car, with aftermarket loud exhaust and possibly a spoiler.

The suspect vehicle was seen driving erratically near the crime scene.
