A 5-year-old boy was shot and killed inside a Calumet City home on Thursday night.
Around 9 a.m., Calumet City police responded to a report of a child shot in the 200 block of Paxton Avenue.
Officers arrived and discovered a 5-year-old boy with a gunshot wound and began performing life-saving measures.
The child was taken to a local trauma center and later pronounced dead.
Kentrell Pouncey of Calumet City was identified as the boy by the Cook County Medical Examiner.
According to investigators, the gun was discharged within the home. Detectives are still looking into this incident.
