RawNews1st – Police officers responded to a 911 call about an argument a the house in in Honolulu, Hawaii but initially left when no one answered the door, Lieutenant Deena Thoemmes of the murder squad told a press conference.
Officers returned about 30 minutes later after getting a second call — and this time gained entry, finding the five bodies, including a 12-year-old boy and two girls, ages 10 and 17.
“Based on the evidence found at the scene and the investigation thus far, it appears that the adult male killed the female and the juveniles with the knife that was recovered at the scene,” Thoemmes said.
Police have not released the names but neighbors of the family identified 46-year-old Paris Oda as the father. Officials have also not released Oda’s cause of death.
Oda was a chiropractor near Ala Moana Center. His social media presence and a review of public records give no indication that he was capable of a homicidal rampage.
The motive is still under investigation, according to authorities.
Oda had just one brush with crime back in 1997, on Kauai in his late teens. It was a tampering charge, similar to trespassing, and was erased from his record after avoiding other trouble.
Tax records show Oda and his wife bought their four-bedroom home on a 7,519-foot lot on Waaloa Place in Manoa for $1 million in 2013. The city appraisal this year is almost $1.7 million.
Records do show that Oda experienced financial problems in the past.
In March 2021, the owners of a professional office building on King Street sued Oda and his company for about $90,000 in rent and fees going back three years.
