On Thursday, the Anoka Police Department made the unfortunate announcement that one of its officers had died suddenly at his home.
Officer Eric Groebner died suddenly at his home on Wednesday, September 14, 2022. He was 39.
Officer Groebner has been a member of the Anoka Police Family since 2013.
“If you ever met Officer Groebner, you would immediately know you had a lifelong friend. He was truly the best of us. A Father, Husband, Son, Brother, Friend and an exceptional Police Officer.
He was loved by all and will be greatly missed,” Anoka Police Department said in a statement.
“Today there is a hole in our hearts but we know that we are better for knowing him, better for loving him, better for having met him. May he be as blessed in the next life, as we were in this one by knowing him. May we all strive to be the Police Officer like Officer Groebner.
A fair, kind, thoughtful and caring man. Rest in Peace Officer Eric Groebner Badge #29,” the post concluded.
It’s unclear what caused the officer’s death.
Eric leaves behind his wife, two children, and a lot of friends.
Following Eric’s passing, many people have offered their respects.
On Friday, dozens of people gathered outside a funeral home in Anoka to pay their respects as the body of fallen Officer Eric Groebner was brought there in a procession.
“The Maple Grove Police Department is deeply saddened by the sudden death of Anoka Police Officer Eric Groebner. Our agency has the family of Officer Groebner and the Anoka Police Department in our thoughts and prayers,” said Maple Grove PD.
“Our hearts go out to Holly & her boys. I worked with Holly at Crooked Lake. Wonderful lady. Her husband Officer Groebner came to our home when our son’s phone was stolen at school.
He had found the location of where it was & brought it back to us. Our community has lost a great servant.
We thank you for your service & if you can help support Holly & her boys in anyway…it would be greatly appreciated!! Please join us in lifting Holly & her family up in prayers, for peace, comfort & healing,” said Jess Marie.
A GoFundMe page was made to recognize “Eric’s impact on all those he interacted with, professionally and personally, and to be a source of financial support in his absence for his son’s future educational aspirations.”
