Around 9 a.m., police officers responded to the scene regarding an “accidental death” at 26 Rockford Court in Brandon, Mississippi.
When officers arrived at the scene, Brandon Police said they became suspicious about the actual cause of death.
Investigators then determined the victim, 38-year-old Carri Gorrell, appeared to have died from a gunshot wound.
Her husband, 35-year-old Tyler Gorrell, has been arrested and charged with felony possession of a controlled substance and murder.
Brandon Police, the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, and the Rankin County Coroner David Ruth were at the scene.
Tyler Gorrell made his initial appearance in Brandon Municipal Court on Monday, where he received a $2,050,000 bond, and learned that he was facing an additional two charges.
He is now facing two additional charges: tampering with physical evidence and directing or causing youth to commit a felony.
Brandon Police Chief Joseph French said the matter was still under investigation.
