Ames police arrested Grant Kuehnast, 21, Colton Moore, 20, and Tyler Ekstrom, 20, and charged each with one count of extortion, a class D felony, and second-degree harassment, a serious misdemeanor.
Court records show the three college students, each members of the FarmHouse Fraternity, attempted to coerce the victim, a fellow fraternity member, into performing a sex act on one of them by threatening to shoot him in the face and groin with an airsoft gun.
A search warrant details how Keuhnast, Moore and Ekstrom, on the evening of Jan. 31, entered a room inside the fraternity located on Ash Avenue where the victim was trying to sleep.
Keuhnast allegedly instructed the victim to perform a sex act on Moore, while Ekstrom stood near the door, according to the warrant. When the victim initially refused, Keuhnast allegedly fired the airsoft gun at the victim.
The three students were arrested on May 4 and have been released on bond while they await trial.
The Iowa State Chapter of the FarmHouse Fraternity released a statement on Friday stating all three members “have been placed on inactive status by the chapter pending the outcome of the police investigation and legal process.” The statement confirmed the students no longer live in the fraternity house and are barred from attending any event associated with the fraternity.
“FarmHouse has a zero tolerance for assault or any conduct that violates a state and/or local law,” the fraternity wrote in the statement. “The chapter will continue to fully comply with law enforcement through the investigation and any subsequent legal proceedings.”
