The Israeli occupation has announced the launch of “a military operation against the Palestinian Islamic Jihad in Gaza.” The operation was called “Breaking Dawn.”
Israeli forces have begun an operation hitting targets in the Gaza strip, the military said, following days of friction after the arrest of a senior Palestinian militant leader.
The targeting of civilian buildings is an alarming violation of international law. Worryingly, there are reports that this is the start of a new Israeli military offensive called ‘Operation Dawn,’ and that the violence will further escalate.
This latest assault on Gaza follows several days of severe border restrictions, as Israel has tightened its brutal blockade.
The Al Mezan Center for Human Rights says that dozens of medical patients were prevented from leaving Gaza to seek medical treatment in the West Bank, “putting their lives at risk.” The closure has affected the import of all other goods, including fuel needed for the power plant.
Just last year, Israel’s military assault on Gaza killed 240 people, including 67 children, and perpetuated a humanitarian crisis. CJPME urges Canada to demand an end to Israel latest attack, and suspend all military trade with Israel immediately.
