Indeed, while others are constantly killing off models – especially passenger cars – Toyota is adding novelties. Of course, they are doing it while safely behind the massively popular Toyota Tacoma (in the US) or the iconic RAV4 compact crossover (worldwide). But we appreciate the daringness.
Think about it for a second. In America, the Japanese company sells four versions of the Corolla series, two variants of the legendary Prius, two mid-size sedans – Camry and Crown, two dedicated sports cars (GR86 and GR Supra), plus the awkward Mirai FCEV and even the Sienna minivan. The trucks – Tacoma and Tundra – are both ICE and HEV now.
Then we move on to the crossover and SUV department: Corolla Cross ICE and HEV, all-electric bZ4X, RAV4 ICE plus Hybrid and PHEV, Highlander and Highlander Hybrid, Crown Signia, Grand Highlander with ICE and HEV models, 4Runner, Venza, as well as the big Sequoia. Also, let’s not forget about the fabled return of the legendary Land Cruiser. You would think it’s more than enough to satisfy any taste, right?
As it turns out, the parallel universes of vehicular CGI are never satisfied.
Their insatiable quench for more automotive goodness makes the imaginative realm of digital car content creators pretty busy – and recently, the good folks over at the PoloTo and Q Cars channels on YouTube have asked their resident pixel masters for ideas regarding a new compact Toyota CUV that could sit alongside the RAV4 models and act as an off-road-dedicated foil.
The idea isn’t necessarily absurd – Toyota is already selling a myriad of mid-size CUVs and SUVs: Highlander and Grand Highlander plus Crown Signia and 4Runner, along with the Land Cruiser.
Oh, and let us not forget about the Venza, which is a gem because it’s a five-seat hybrid at an affordable price ($35k), a rarity these days. As such, the two channels have brought back to our attention the old rumors of Toyota coming out with a compact Land Cruiser version, either dubbed ‘Mini’ or titled ‘Land Hopper.’
The host and the resident pixel master from Q Cars believe the Toyota Land Hopper nameplate is the more likely case, whereas the good folks over at the PoloTo channel think of Land Cruiser Mini as the better candidate to make sure everyone understands the lineage.
However, both agree that it’s an adventurous off-road-prone crossover SUV tucked in the same slot as rivaling models like the Ford Bronco Sport. What’s your opinion on the matter?
