The hotel, located along Ocean Drive in tourist-packed South Beach
Police and fire and rescue units found the bodies in a room at The Villa Casa Casuarina after receiving a call from housekeeping, Miami Beach police said Wednesday. Police said the scene was contained to the hotel room and a preliminary investigation revealed the deaths to be “an apparent double suicide,” according to public information officer Ernesto Rodriguez.
“We are heartbroken by tragic events at the Villa Casa Casuarina,” the statement read.Â
Cunanan was suspected of killing four other men across the country over the course of nearly three months. He was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound eight days after killing Versace.
The building was built in 1930 and purchased by Versace in 1992. On July 15, 1997, Versace, 50, was shot in the head on the steps of his mansion by serial killer Andrew Cunanan as he returned home from the News Cafe, a few blocks away.Â
