Electric power will be out for two hours Saturday on the East Side as National Grid makes improvements, city officials said Friday.
The outage, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., will affect 1,041 customers in homes and businesses along parts of Congress Street, Pawling Avenue, Pinewoods Avenue, Spring Avenue and nearby side streets.
National Grid had delayed the planned outage by a week at the request of city officials due to concerns about the cold weather.
City Council President Carmella Mantello asked the utility to delay the outage to a “warmer seasonable day” for residents who may not be signed up for notifications, “the disabled, senior citizens, children, and medically compromised folks not receiving this notification and being put in jeopardy.”
Mayor Patrick Madden’s office said the utility is monitoring the weather. The improvements are to make the electrical system more resilient to blackout, the mayor’s office said.
