A Rochester teen who was reported missing in August was found dead in the woods over the weekend, according to Rochester police.
The body of Jakarah Lopez-Moore, 16, was found on Saturday in the woods behind 5 Vanguard Parkway, said Capt. Frank Umbrino of the Rochester Police Department.
Lopez-Moore was officially reported missing by her family on Aug. 29, he said. Her relatives told police that the teen left her Weld Street home two days earlier – around 1:45 a.m. – and did not return, Umbrino said.
At the time her family told officers that they believed she could be in danger, according to the initial report.
Vanguard Parkway is just off Emerson Street and east of Lee Road and Route 390.
Lopez-Moore’s death marks Rochester’s 49th homicide of 2023, according to RPD’s Open Data portal.
Umbrino said police continue to investigate the circumstances around Lopez-Moore’s disappearance. Further details on the investigation and her killing were not released.
