Police have arrested a suspect in the fatal shooting of a mother in front of her children last week.
Tyron Jackasal, 20, faces a second degree murder charge, according to a report by WFTS, an ABC affiliated news station serving the Tampa area.
Police say he shot K’Mia Simmons, 21, on March 30 while she was in a car in St. Petersburg with her two children, a 1-year-old and a 2-year-old, as well as their father, Parise Lovett Jr, WFTS reported.
Authorities believe he may have been aiming for Lovett, but struck Simmons while she was holding one of her children, WFTS reported.
After the shooting, Lovett grabbed the kids and ran from the scene.
Lovett reportedly came forward and told police he and Jackasal had a dispute over a stolen necklace.
A funeral service for Simmons is planned Saturday in St. Petersburg.
