One man was killed and three others were critically injured in a shooting overnight in the city’s River North neighborhood.

Chicago police say a call for multiple people shot brought officers to the 400 block of North La Salle Drive around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Police found the four victims, but they say the suspects took off after the shooting.

Police sources tell WGN-TV one of the four victims is a security guard who works in the area. It’s not clear if he has any connection to the other three men who were shot.

According to Chicago police, the victims were getting into an SUV when four suspects came up on foot and opened fire. The suspects then jumped into an unknown vehicle and were gone by the time officers arrived.

Officers performed lifesaving actions on the victims at the scene, applying tourniquets and a chest seal, as well as doing CPR. All of the victims were transported to Northwestern Hospital, where one of them, a 34-year-old man who had been shot multiple times, was pronounced dead.

The other victims included a 36-year-old man shot in the chest, a 43-year-old man shot in the back, and a 35-year-old man shot several times. All three are in critical condition, according to police.

Alberto Aquino, a rideshare driver who was in the are at the time of the shooting, shared what he heard with WGN-TV.

“I heard a few shots, but I it sounded like those mufflers that just kind of go off,” Aquino said. “… I just thought it was normal, but when I turned onto Hubbard, I saw they had closed everything.”
