According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers heard gunshots in the 5900 block of Madison Avenue on Indy’s south side.
Police are investigating after one person was killed and seven other people were injured in several shootings early Sunday morning across Indianapolis.
While officers were investigating, they received multiple “shots fired” calls and directed officers to the parking lot outside the GZ Restaurant on Madison Avenue.
When officers arrived, they located five people who had been shot. Police say a male was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A 25-year-old man and 23-year-old woman were transported to an area hospitals in critical condition, while a 29-year-old man and 25-year-old man were transported to an area hospitals in stable condition.
Police say a large disturbance occurred inside the GZ Restaurant, then spilled out into the parking lot where people began shooting.
According to police, multiple businesses were hit by gunfire and many shell chasings were located in the parking lot. Police also located multiple firearms at the scene.
Ten minutes later, officers responded to a reported shooting on Edwin Court, just north of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Officers located three people who had been shot. Two of those victims were adults and the third was a juvenile.
